Should European furniture be made in Europe?

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

There are moments in your life when you just wake up and do not smile because of the surroundings you are in. This usually happens when your old furniture doesn’t look stylish or even worse – it really looks old-fashioned and bulky.

You know that nowadays there is a tendency to minimize the space occupied by the furnishings in any room and you will definitely like to follow the trend when you visit your nearest contemporary furniture store new york. At first you might be amazed by the number of sofas, beds, complete suites that may be offered by any furniture store New Jersey but do not let them fool you around. Indeed, even in luxurious modern furniture stores in Manhattan you will be offered “quality European furniture” but are you sure that all this is true? Definitely, not! Actually, it is really difficult to find out the real origin of this “European furniture” if you are not an expert in this sphere. But we will give you some advice about that.

First of all, if the seller tries to convince you that this is the only quality and authentic furniture article from Europe – do not believe him or her. Right, there are companies that sell modern sofa beds New York and New Jersey but it is NOT made in Europe otherwise the price would be more than $5.000 for just a bed as the shipping is not a cheap option.

This European furniture is made in China but under the strict control from the manufacturers’ side which headquarters are in Europe: France, Germany, Italy or Belgium. But at the same time there are firms that can sell you a fake product, a fake furniture article that is made without any kind of control by the unqualified personnel. If you really want to be sure about the origin and the quality of furniture you want to buy – there is no better way as to study the license, the documents and all the labels and tags on your future furniture.

A happy New Year! Grant that I

My Garage

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

Stephen Gandel in his article “Forecast 2009: Your Home “ published today in Money Magazine calls to forget the old saw that all real estate is local. No doubt the long lasting global credit crisis is urging us not only on changing the point of view on kind old saws but on global revising some of fundamental economic laws assumed as a basis in modern economics. But however, in spite of home prices are falling and projected to keep falling in 2009, banks’ troubles have made getting mortgages harder for many home buyers, and all those who do qualify have to pay more the Stephen Gandel advises don’t be in a hurry to sell, just if you can wait to sell until 2010 when real estate will be stronger, do it. And here I’m absolutely agreed with him. As the saying is – stormy weather cannot stay all the time, the red sun will come out, too.

As to me, I don’t change my mind neither about saws nor about economic systems. Now I’m busy with other, more important to me things, I’m going to put my garage in order. The point is that steel garage buildings come in various styles then I have to pick up the most suitable one. Besides that it must be economical and easily constructed within a day or two, using minimum labor. I just want to have a unique place of creation, ingenuity and reflection. If you have any idea let me know please:-)

Carpets Back in Vogue

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Carpeting room is really great idea for a winter season. “Many of this season’s carpet designs have a luxurious, handmade feel, which follows the fashion for individuality as the new luxury.
Using carpet for “spotlight areas” in your home, such as bedrooms and snugs is a great way to add texture, a feeling of coziness and comfort that makes the difference between a “house” and a “haven”, interior designer Danielle Proud, says.

Besides that using carpet you can save heating bills this winter. The way to do that is to install a new carpet in your home. Do you know that carpets in your home can help you to save up to 6% of energy-saving costs (Source: Wools of New Zealand 2002). On average, a UK family’s heating bill is now £1,000 per year, which could represent a saving of £60 per household or £156 million across all UK households*, 4ecotips.com. informs. It means you care about ecology.

Leura House

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Nestled in the picturesque Blue Mountains near Sydney is James Stockwell’s Leura House, winner of the 2008 Wilkinson Award – the Australian Institute of Architects New South Wales’ highest accolade for a residential project. Inspired by Japanese design methods and informed by warm California modernism, this sleek dwelling embodies a new and decidedly Australian brand of contemporary sustainable architecture, marking Stockwell as one of the country’s top young architects.

Drawing upon Japanese architect Takamasa Yoshizaka’s method of ‘discontinuous unity’ (or the fine art of incomplete space) Stockwell creates open-ended spaces without defined thresholds, blurring the line between indoor and outdoor. Walls aren’t there to enclose, but rather to cause pause as one journeys through the space.

Besides being drop dead gorgeous, Leura House is also deeply sustainable. Rammed earth walls made from crushed local sandstone with cement, iron stone and quartz provide excellent insulation. Simple passive methods that warm and cool the house are backed up by a hydroponic heating and cooling system. The house even produces its own power and water. Having honed his design skills with Peter Stutchbury, Stockwell has been involved with several award-winning projects, but Leura House gives him his first prize for his own practice. We’re excited to see what comes next.

Live Like a Rothschild.

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

High –rise residential towers are popping up in Tel Aviv every day. While offering the highest level of luxury, the steel and glass monsters have been criticized by locals from their foreignness and appearance, ill-fitting the garden city of Tel Aviv.

If you are looking for a home that is a bit more authentically Tel Aviv, look no further than the many Bauhousand Eclectic Style residential renovation projects going on in the city’s trendy neighborhoods. Here are a few that stand out: Karol Residence, 14 Yehuda HaLevi Street and 6Yehuda HaLevi street. So you can take the chance to live like a Rothschild near Rothschild.

I have to go out tonight to make the photos of these wonderful buildings.

How to Avoid Smell?

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

How to avoid annoying smell in your home? First of all one has to keep it clean with the help of different cleaning means – from special detergents to Vacuum cleaners such as powerful upright vacuums cleaners from Hoover or Bissell and more. Do you know that in the Middle Ages, physicians believed diseases were caused by smells and gases? One treatment for the plague was roses. Remember the old rhyme, “Roses, Roses, We all fall down.” No smell doesn’t cause diseases of course. But unpleasant smell in a home still makes us nervous. There a many ways to make your home green and clean using natural products that can help to solve this very specific household problem. Here are just a few of them:

1. Baking soda: Acts as a scrub to remove hard water stains; polishes metal; deodorizes pretty much anything it touches (try stashing some in the fridge).

2. Borax: Mixed with three parts water, it makes a paste for cleaning carpet stains; mixed with ¼ part lemon juice, it cleans stainless steel and porcelain. (Note: although borax is a natural substance, you still shouldn’t eat it—and neither should your kids or pets.)

3. Lemon: Deodorizes and cuts grease on counter tops; rubbed on cutting boards, it bleaches stains and disinfects; combined with baking soda, it removes stains from plastic food storage containers.

4. Salt: Another natural scrubber—sprinkle it on cookware or oven surfaces, then rub; add citrus juice to turn it into an effective rust remover.

5. White vinegar: Deodorizes and disinfects; combine with water (and a little liquid soap—I know, it feels like cheating) to clean windows, mirrors, and floors; use at full strength in a spray bottle to fight mold and mildew.

6. Olive Oil: Mix two parts oil with one part lemon juice and use as a natural wood polish. (Save the really good stuff for dinner.
