Unique Places To Put Stone Walls

Sunday, June 19th, 2011

If you are a stone lover like many other people in this world then you will love putting stones in different places on your property. What most people don’t realize is there are a bunch of great places to put stones that most people don’t even think about. For instance if you wanted to run a stone wall directly up against your house then this would look very different but at the same time add some style to your home.

When it comes to the property perimeter stone walls are often times seen there but they do look very nice in most cases. The reason why stones walls around a property are always looking really nice is because people will see that first before they even see your house. What most people don’t realize is that stone on the outer perimeter of your home might be a little risky if you live in a bad neighborhood but if you live in a place where people like to see nice landscaping then you should have no problem with this.

Another unique place to put a stone wall is around trees and near gardens. The reason why these are two place I would recommend putting a stone wall is because this is some place that people would not expect to see one. When it comes to designing your home or your landscape you want to think outside the box to a point where shocking others is the way to make an impression. Something many designers learn early on is that when somebody is shocked to see something that is normally a good sign. If you want to ensure that your stone walls are place in the perfect spots then just let others be the judge for you. Just remember that stone walls are not permanent and they can be taken down at any time.

Plants Around Your Home

Monday, July 28th, 2008

How many times have you been to someone’s home and thought it is bare? There is no greenery and flora in the house. Or the other extreme is that someone’s house looks like a jungle. Well there are definitely many ways to add greenery to your home to make it more interesting and homely.

I recently went to someone’s home and was quite shocked at the mess of green plants that she had on display. Her home is spotless and well maintained apart from one corner which is devoted to plants. In this corner there were about twenty different plants that were crowded together on a small low table. Nothing could have looked more jungle like and messy.

I always believe in the idea that less is more. If you have one or two well cared for plants placed around your living area it can look a lot better than one great big clump in a corner. Plants are not meant to be overgrown and look like jungles, if you have climbers then make sure they are wrapped around a pillar or banister and actually have somewhere to climb rather than trail all over the floor.

Plants need to be nurtured, they need sunlight and water, so don’t think that just because you have bought a plant there is nothing else to do with it. You will need to add water to it as the instructions suggest and that it gets enough sunlight. Plants need a hole at the bottom of the pot in order for them to breathe adequately so it is advisable to have them on a plate that can collect any excess water or dirt.

In addition to making sure the plant grows you also need to take care of the dead leaves that may occur. Periodically look for leaves that have changed color, try and get to them before they completely fall off and make a mess.

Attractive plants in a home can make a big difference to how the place looks but not if they are not looked after well and cared for. If you do decide to have plants then make sure you know what you are letting yourself in for, in terms of care.
